Influences

My folks were Red labor organizers in the 30s, 40s and 50s. I was 10 in '67, my brother took me to see Hendrix, Blue Cheer, the Dead and the Airplane. The Quaker church I went to gave 3 protesting AWOLs from the Vietnam war sanctuary in '69, dozens of others followed. I led a walkout of 9th graders from class on Moratorium Day. As all these things swirled around me, I constantly occupied myself with drawing little designs, painting the furniture and walls, lettering slogans and symbols on everything…

"There was music in the cafés at night, and Revolution in the air…"

In the beginning, there was Marvel Comics and Mad Magazine. I owe alot to them for filling my hours with endlessly inventive and s/influences.htmltylish worlds made of pen and ink.

By 1966, even Peter Parker was swept away with the rising tide of Amerika's Cultural Revolution. The world was seething with urgency. Vehicles for the delivery of the messages on all sides of the revolution were in demand. Influences: add Victor Moscoco, Wes Wilson, Rick Griffin, Randy Tuten and keep adding

…"people are getting high in the middle of a heavy anti-euphoric culture, …its effect as a dynamic euphoriant immediately puts its users in a position of conflict with the dominant culture."

John Sinclair, 1971

I took a lot to heart in those times.
